FREARSON FLAT HEAD SILICON BRONZE SCREWS (aka "Reid & Prince")
Do not confuse these screws with brass or brass plated screws. Brass screws are weak and all electroplated screws will rust. Silicon bronze is the best for a marine environment.
Our screws are "full body, wood screws"; this is an important distinction. Many "wood screws" sold today are, in fact, sheet metal screws.
The shank above the threads on a wood screw is the same size as the outside dimension of the threads. Sheet metal screws have a shank the same size as the inside dimension of the threads and tend to break more readily in boatbuilding applications.
Our bronze screws are easier to drive than hot-dipped galvanized and should it be necessary to grind off a corner, they do not lose their corrosion resistance.
NOTE: Screws are now sold in packages of 100 or as noted. Also these are FREARSON flat head screws and although a Phillips bit should work, many have found the Frearson driver bits we offer below work even better.
