A big ten-footer. |
For many years, I built boats with kids at a middle-school in Coos Bay. We built the Sabotina and a Saboteer. The Sabotina was stitch and glue, the Saboteer, ply on frame. It was a much bigger boat, yet very light. We built it as a rowboat, marine fir on mahogany. SS fastenings, System 3 epoxy. The customer was pleased, but I think it would have been worth the effort and expense to scarf mahogany 1066 panels. Since I knew what I was doing the project went along very quickly. Maybe 30 hrs. I am a big fan of the standing lug sail as all the spars are short enough to stow in the boat. The rig is very managable I get my sails as a kit from Sailrite. Fun to make. |
