a Sailing or Rowing Dinghy

The conventionally built EIGHT BALL is an ideal first time project (also available as a stitch & glue version). It's also an excellent way to gain boatbuilding experience if constructing larger craft is on the agenda. No building form is required and two sheets of standard 1/4"x4'x8' plywood will plank the entire boat.

The EIGHT BALL is a versatile boat. Use it with oars, a small outboard, or as a sailing dinghy. The mast requires no stays and the sail is a simple sock-type which slips over the mast. An ideal project for young people and a boat that the whole family will enjoy. The compact size makes for easy car-topping, or it can be thrown in a van or pick-up truck. Best of all, it is an inexpensive way to get on the water!

The EIGHT BALL built for sailing features a centerboard that pivots out of the way when not in use. However, for rowing or power, the sailing features can be eliminated.
