Our RELIANT design embodies the heritage of the sea in its graceful traditional appearance. From the raking clipper bow and sweeping bowsprit, to the graceful sheer, capped off aft with taffrails and turned stanchions, it's apparent that this boat is meant to sail anywhere in the world. The RELIANT offers superlative accommodations with unmatched privacy. Yet the interior is spacious, light, and airy with every feature oriented towards safety, comfort, and efficient operation.

Consider the cockpit as an example. Winches fall ready at hand and are at waist level. The helmsman has a separate seat directly behind the wheel, or he can stand on either side. Being on the same level as the deck, the cockpit seats are ideal for lounging, yet the cockpit is compact for safety. Side decks are wide and protected by a bulwark all around. The bowsprit makes anchoring and mooring a pleasure. There's room to carry a 10' dinghy as well.

Berths are provided for four or five couples, and the toilet rooms are strategically located so that no crew member needs to intrude on another's privacy to reach one of them. There are two heads, two showers, three lavatories, three hanging lockers, an oilskin locker, a superb navigators station aft, and an efficient U-shaped galley with every convenience. Dining is possible for a large group, and a fireplace-heater centrally located will take the chill off when needed.

You can build your own RELIANT in either wood, using diagonal plywood or solid wood veneers, or in one-off fiberglass using C-FLEX fiberglass planking or PVC foam sandwich core. Either method is well within the realm of the experienced amateur or small professional yard. Either set of plans provides two underbody options; the Performance Option having a separate ballast keel with rudder/skeg aft, and the Cruiser Option having a single long keel fairing into the rudder aft. If you need more information, a Study Plan brochure is available.
