The VIGILANT makes an ideal workboat that the owner can outfit exactly to suit his needs. This multi-purpose vessel can be used for both commercial and sport fishing, cargo carrying, general yard work, salvage operations, or other similar duties. Hold capacity is a substantial 850 cubic feet for an 8 to 10 ton working load under normal conditions. A single diesel of about 145 shp driving a 34" maximum wheel will permit speeds up to 10 knots. Rated fuel capacity of 700 gallons allows plenty of range, even though extra capacity up to 1,000 gallons is available at the discretion of the skipper with regard to loading balance and stability.

Construction of the VIGILANT is specifically aimed at the amateur or small custom yard. Hull construction is either wood or fiberglass. WOOD methods feature strong and lightweight multi-diagonal plywood or solid wood over substantial wood frames and longitudinals, with exterior surfaces fiberglass sheathed. FIBERGLASS hull construction methods include the "one-off" materials, either the fiberglass planking technique or foam sandwich core with balsa core optional. With wood or fiberglass hulls, decks and superstructure are basic wood and plywood construction with exteriors sheathed with fiberglass for low cost and simplicity.

Features of the VIGILANT include a beamy hull, noticeable flare forward, a bulbous forefoot, and protective bulwarks for stay-at-sea ability. Accommodations include berths for 2 (3 in a pinch by using the settee), enclosed head with optional shower, hanging locker, roomy settee with table, and space for a complete galley. Dual controls with flying bridge allow continuous operation in fair weather or foul, and a recessed aft cockpit lends itself to many uses. Although a Table of Offsets is provided, lofting the lines of the VIGILANT is not necessary if using our available Full Size Patterns. In addition, voluminous instructions, complete with hull material listings, are a part of all plan options.
