  • Hull type: Vee bottom, developed for sheet plywood.
  • Power: Inboard motors in direct drive. Ideal for auto conversions with a maximum length of 42" overall.
  • Can the hull be extended or shortened? No. We also do not recommend increasing the beam.
  • Trailer: Designed for use with Glen-L Series 1700 boat trailer plans.

Like the L. DORADO, L. CAPITAN was a very popular boat when "modern" cars sported fins. Today these stylish classics are being sought out by a generation who remembers them from their youth. The L. CAPITAN is an ideal follower for those muscle cars of the 1950's. The L. CAPITAN is no longer in our catalog, however, due to requests from customers familiar with the boat, we are making the her available through our web site.

The following copy appeared in our 1957 catalog:

L. CAPITAN has set a styling standard. From the tip of the bow to the transom the clean flowing lines give the appearance of action and motion. The "tail" sections not only give a rakish appearance, but also serve to keep the aft passengers dry. If you have ever sat in the rear seat of a runabout on a windy day, this feature can really be appreciated.

The L. CAPITAN is designed to hold almost all of the modern day auto conversions or full marine motors. The broad beam and clean running bottom lines enable a variety of power plant options. Due to the location of the motor, directly over the center of buoyancy, weight differences of the various motors will not affect performance.

This boat was designed with the problems of the amateur builder in mind. Although the styling is different, the construction has been kept as simple as possible. Due to the unusual type of construction, however, this design is offered as plans and patterns only. By this means we are able to offer much more complete building templates than would be possible with scaled drawings. The complete plans and patterns consist of the complete scale drawings, augmented by prospective and sectional illustrations, complete step by step written instructions with a bill of materials, complete cut paper templates for the tail contour, stem, knee, breasthook, carling, and half sections of the transom and each of the frames.
