Play Pen

a 15' outboard dive and fishing boat

Build in PLYWOOD

Characteristics
Length overall 15'-5"
Beam 6'-11"
Hull depth 26"
Average passengers 1-4
Hull weight (approx.) 550 lbs.
  • Hull type: Garvey with vee bottom developed for sheet plywood planking.
  • Power: Single or twin short shaft outboard motors to 75 hp. Long shaft motor can be used if transom modified. Inboard/outboard drives can also be used to 400 lbs.
Note: I/O unit must be low silhouette or it will project above deck line.
  • Can the hull be extended or shortened? No. We also do not recommend increasing the beam.
  • Trailer: Designed for use with Glen-L Series 1000 boat trailer plans.

What's your choice? Fishing, scuba diving, water skiing, or just plain fun on the water? The PLAY PEN is at home in any type of boating recreation where a large, very large, open cockpit is required. And doesn't everyone want more space in their boat? With the PLAY PEN you have just what the name implies, a large open area for all types of boating fun and water play.

The PLAY PEN carries an exceptionally wide beam. The beam, however, is at the sheer or deck line of the boat. An extremely generous flare is carried all the way to the transom to make a conventional beam at the waterline, yet provides almost immediate reserve buoyancy for heavy loads. The bottom lines extend from a slight vee at the transom to a generous vee bottom at the garvey bow.

The method of construction utilizes a sawn harpin and chine member. With these members sawn to shape, the normal bending of the longitudinals in the forward section is eliminated. In fact, the sheer and bow member are one piece, extending completely around the boat for extra ridgidity. The construction allows considerable latitude with the interior layout. The seats aft of the helm may be completely eliminated if preferred. All of the seats may be utilized for storage, providing room to carry all types of boating and recreational gear.
