I guess it's time for an explanation for the dumb name of this awesome boat. Here's the story... after my dad (Glen-L) designed and built this boat, I was about 4 and he asked me what I wanted to name it. With an older sister that frequently was called on to "do" things for her little sister, I immediately said, "Sissy Do". I'm sorry... Sincerely, Gayle Brantuk
(by the way, this boat transported me and my friends and family to many adventures throughout the years and is a significant and treasured part of my childhood.)
The multi-purpose SISSY DO isn't fancy or streamlined, just a sturdy, basic boat that gets the job done. The original prototype was going strong for 30 years. For fly casting, the flat bottom offers more stability than the common production hulls. As for riding ability, it will bring you back on any type of water a boat of this size and power should be out in. A local entrepreneur built a fleet of SISSY DO's as rental boats at a beachside pier. You can draw it up on the beach and walk ashore, something that's not so easy with a vee bottom hull.
The SISSY DO is inexpensive and easy to build. A couple of fellows working on a long weekend should be able to slap her together without problem. The plans and patterns are especially complete with step-by-step building photos of exactly how the original was built, including written text and material list.
"I have built two Glen-L boats, a Sissy Do for our son in 1983 and another Sissy Do for our grandson in 2003. These are excellent little boats, quick and easy to build. I have recommended Glen-L to many folks over the years. The plans make building the boats easy and the fastening kits provide exactly what you need saving the time of searching."
"When our grandson took the helm of his Sissy Do I could see in our son's face the recollection of his own special memories of his Sissy Do twenty years before....priceless."
"I am still deciding just which Glen-L will be my next boat building project, there are a lot of new designs to choose from." Sincerely, David Epp
