The American Indian Chippewa tribe was known as master canoe builders. Their construction methods and craftsmanship resulted in canoes with performance second to none. We've retained the quality and performance factors of these famous canoe makers, but modernized the construction to adapt to current day materials and amateur boatbuilding methods.
You can build your own CHIPPEWA canoe using either the fiberglass planking method (C-FLEX), or by using a series of thin wood veneers laid diagonally athwartship in multiple layers. Each construction method is fully detailed on the plans with specific step-by-step instructions. You have your choice of building in three different lengths: 13', 15', or 17'. All details necessary for building any of these lengths are covered in one set of low cost plans, patterns, and instructions.
The frames are temporary forms over which the hull is built, and do not remain in the finished canoe.
