In faster boats that run out of the water, more than in, the use of a water pickup located as far aft as possible is recommended. Mounting the pickup thru the cavitation plate eliminates a hole drilled through the bottom of the boat and provides positive water pickup. The thru-hull mounts to the transom and connects to the pickup with the #90-534 special 12" hose made from synthetic rubber with stainless steel wire braid covering, complete with swivel fittings to match thru-hull and pickup.
