CASALE SPLIT CASE V-DRIVES
Split case v-drives are available in three different models; direct, in-and-out, or with forward neutral and reverse incorporated. They are available with built-in 10o or 12o angles between the input and output shafts. The water cooled cases are cast from high-tensile aluminum alloy. The helical gears are changeable and made from high quality carburizing steel, while the splined and ground shafts are made from heat treated steel. Heavy-duty ball bearings are used with the lower output shaft bearing fully capable of absorbing the thrust from the propeller shaft. The mounting plate is furnished with the v-drive in three widths and separates each half of the case allowing easy installation of the vee drive and changing gears. Split case v-drives are available in overdrive ratios of 1:06, 1:09, 1:12, 1:15, 1:18, 1:22, 1:25, 1:29, 1:32, 1:37, and 1:40. Thus, in the case of the 1:06 v-drive, the propeller would turn 6% faster than the motor. All listed v-drives reverse the direction of rotation. Thus, if the motor (as viewed from the stern) is rotating in a right hand or clockwise direction, the v-drive output (propeller shaft) will turn to the left or counterclockwise. Although hard and fast rules cannot be given, the average ski boat will utilize gears in the 1:09 to 1:22 range. Boats for higher speeds would utilize higher ratios while larger and heavier boats would use ratios in the lower range.
