Jack Tar

Our JACK TAR looks, performs, and has features like long range cruising yachts much larger in displacement and length. Imagine cruising over 1,000 miles on a single filling of fuel using a modest sized diesel of about 45 shp. That's economy! At just a hair over 31', you'll appreciate the compact size when it comes time to pay the slip rental fee. But just because this boat's short, don't sell it short!

The JACK TAR is a real triple cabin yacht that will easily accommodate a family of five in comfort and privacy. The aft cabin is the owner's haven, having a double berth and complete toilet room adjacent, including a shower and roomy hanging locker. An additional upper berth could be worked in above the double berth if needed. The deckhouse has a complete galley, plus a settee berth (which could be made into a convertible double if desired). The dining table is removable and stows against the overhead when not needed. There's a chart table to port and an inside helm to starboard for use in inclement weather. Sliding doors are located port and starboard for safe, easy handling of the vessel. Another double cabin is located forward, with berths flanked outboard with shelves and two hanging lockers aft. With the added berths noted, you could sleep up to seven if everyone is friendly!

JACK TAR also has big yacht features outside too. There's a good sized aft cockpit with a handy optional transom gate and transom step for easy and safe boarding. A boat deck readily accommodates a dinghy up to 8' long, and the flying bridge has another control station plus lounging seats for the entire crew. Wide side decks and an uncluttered foredeck assure easy and safe handling at dockside, anchoring, or mooring.

Our JACK TAR can be built in plywood and wood using sheet plywood for the topside planking and double diagonal planking on the bottom. Or you can build the hull using our "one-off" fiberglass materials and methods. With either version, the hull design is meant for long range blue water cruising in just about any weather. There's plenty of tankage for fuel and water, and plenty of room below for gear and equipment necessary for long cruises. The single engine, with large diameter propeller and ample rudder combined with a full length skeg, assures positive handling under all conditions. If you'd like more information before building your own JACK TAR, order our Study Plan brochure.
